January 11 is National Human Trafficking Awareness Day. And the month of January is National Slavery and Human Trafficking Awareness Month. Do you think this is something that happens only in other places? Human trafficking is modern-day slavery. It is a scourge that is both global and local, and we hope that you all take the time to find out how your local community is addressing human trafficking issues.
If you live in the Bay Area, there will be a program on Human Trafficking on Sunday, January 29, 2-4 p.m., co-sponsored by the AAUW Contra Costa Interbranch Council and the Contra Costa County Commission on Women. The panel of government and non-profit experts will explain the scope of the problem and suggest ways to combat trafficking -- globally and locally. The program will be held at the Lafayette Library and Learning Center.
If you know of any other human trafficking programs being held in your area, please share them as comments to this blog post.
