If you are subscribed to the AAUW Action Alerts (and we hope you all are!), you saw the one recently titled: "Are YOU the 99% (of women who have used birth control)?" Since I saw that alert, asking us to contact the White House, I've seen other groups urging the same action. And it's not too late to do so.
You might remember the good news that the Department of Health and Human Services recommended that health insurance plans cover contraception without copay. But that directive is under attack, with attempts to provide exemptions for religiously-based employers, such as the Catholic Church. So the President needs to hear from us right away that, no matter what the Catholic bishops might be telling him, most Catholics in this country want access to birth control.
So we're joining the blog-fest to urge everyone to contact the White House. You can use the phone number listed in the AAUW Action Alert, or you can do what I did -- send the White House an email.
If you want to read more about the issue, there are some terrific articles on the National Women's Law Center blog.
