Emergency Contraception--Good News and Bad News

First the good news...
Last week the FDA approved a generic version of the emergency contraception (AKA "Plan B") pill. Since some insurance companies still (!) do not cover contraception, the access to a much less expensive generic version make it more accessible to women who need it. Back in March, we reported on the federal court ruling that the FDA must make Plan B available without a prescription to anyone age 17 or over. According to a report from the National Women's Law Center, this new generic version should become available over the counter for ages 18 and over as of August.

This same report from NWLC also notes the bad news:
Arizona and Louisiana are both about to enact new laws that will restrict access to emergency contraception.
